State Police Investigating Officer Involved in Portsmouth Shooting – Henry Club

Portsmouth, Va. The state police is investigating an officer involved in Sunday morning’s shooting.

Portsmouth Police say they responded to a call to service near the 2300 block of Greenwood Drive at approximately 11:28 p.m.

Police say a man attacked a Portsmouth officer with a sharp object. The constable opened fire on the man, injuring him grievously. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Witnesses talked to us about what they saw.

John Ray, a witness, said, “The officer pulled over to Taser and told him to leave, constantly telling him to leave and then he didn’t, he stabbed her about two or three times.” “Didn’t phase him the guy told him hey do it again it’s not going to throw me at all when he turned around and just kept accusing the officer and he decided to run over him and he almost swings at him The officer just started firing on him.”

News 3 has found a video of an eyewitness of the shooting. The video shows part of a confrontation between an officer and a man. In the video you can see and hear the officer ordering the man to ‘put it down’. We chose to freeze the video while the shot was fired.

News 3 found another eyewitness video, in which a man walks up to the front door of a neighbor’s house and then unloads items from the verandah. The video also shows him eventually walking down the street as witnesses say the barbecue was the fork.

The state police is probing the firing. News 3 is working to get more details as the community feels uneasy.
