Starlink: Elon Musk-backed Starlink starts refunding pre-booking deposits to customers – Times of India

Tesla CEO Elon Musk Backed Satellite Broadband Company starlink has started offering $99 (approximately Rs.7,400) refunds in India to users who pre-booked the service. Late last year, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) ordered SpaceX’s Satellite Internet division to stop accepting pre-orders in India because it did not obtain a license to offer its services in the country.
In an email communication to the customers who had paid the deposits, the company has asked them to login to their accounts on the company’s website and send requests for cancellation and refund. “The refund will be issued immediately, although it may take up to 10 days to reach your bank account,” the email said. According to the email, the company is refunding the deposit as it is not sure how long it might take. Get a license to work in India.
Earlier, country director Starlink Sanjay Bhargava had said that the company can register for a commercial license on or before the end of January 2022. Reports suggest that a presentation made by Bhargava said that if Starlink can release the service by April, it may achieve the target of 200,000 Starlink devices in India by the end of 2022.
Starlink had reportedly received over 5,000 pre-orders for its satellite internet service until it was ordered by the DoT to stop accepting it until it received regulatory approval.
Starlink Satellite Communications Pvt Ltd registered its business in India in November 2021, however, the company requires a license to offer broadband services. The company claims that India is one of its important markets.
