Srinagar civilian killings: NIA likely to register case, IB and RAW anti-terror chief also reaches J&K

Anti-terrorism chiefs of Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) as well as senior officials of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have reached Kashmir on the directions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, because of the recent killings of civilians. , most of whom are Hindus. And the Sikh community spread panic through the minority population of the Union Territory.

Sources told News18.com that once the team led by the IB’s counter-terrorism chief returns to New Delhi, the NIA will register a case under strict sections. Sources said the case will be registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) besides sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Officials told News18 that the suspects have been taken into custody by security forces as per information provided by counter-terrorism teams. The team will also coordinate with the local security forces.

Seven civilians have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir in the last five days. Four of them were from minority communities and six deaths occurred in Srinagar. The principals of a Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Idgah, Srinagar, Supinder Kaur and Deepak Chand were shot dead in the school premises at around 11:15 am on Thursday. There were no students in the school at the time of the incident.

Makhan Lal Bindu, a prominent Kashmiri Pandit and owner of Srinagar’s most famous pharmacy, was shot dead at his shop on Tuesday. A ‘chaat’ vendor, Virendra Paswan from Bihar and another civilian, Mohammad Shafi Lone, were also killed in Srinagar and Bandipora on Tuesday.

On Saturday, terrorists shot dead Majid Ahmed Gojri in Srinagar and Mohammad Shafi Dar in Batamaloo.

According to official figures, a total of 28 civilians have been killed by terrorists in 2021 so far. Of the 28 killed, five are from local Hindu or Sikh communities and two are non-local Hindu labourers.
