Sri Lanka named two spinners for the first T20 against Australia

Sri Lanka recently picked up Vanindu Hasaranga and Mahesh Teekshana, who returned from playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), for the first Twenty20 against Australia, as they look to test the visitors with spin.

Batsmen Pathum Nisanka and Kusal Mendis were also named in the Dasun Shanaka-led side to face the world champions in Colombo in the first game of the three-match series.

Among the notable omissions was young pacer Mathisha Pathirana, who caught her eye while playing for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

Australia on Monday announced their squad, which was sticking with a three-pronged pace attack, which led them to World Cup last year. Kane Richardson was picked along with Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, while Ashton Agar was picked as the lone spinner.

Sri Lanka had suffered a 4-1 series loss to Australia earlier this year.
