Sri Lanka Cricket Registers Record Net Profit of LKR 6.3 billion in 2022

This is a 3x increase year-on-year compared to the LKR 2.1 billion of net profit earned in 2021.

2022 proved to be a historic year for Sri Lanka Cricket Because it made a record profit of 6.3 billion rupees (Sri Lankan currency), the highest annual net income ever. Sri Lanka hosted Australia and Sri Lanka during tough times last year when the country was fighting against the economic crisis.

LKR 6.3 billion means it is a 3x year-on-year growth compared to the LKR 2.1 billion net profit earned in 2021.

“The latest increase in net income was mainly generated from four revenue segments, which are international cricket, domestic cricket, sponsorship contracts and ICC Annual Member Disbursements,” SLC said in a statement.

Sri Lanka had also won the Asia Cup last year by defeating Pakistan in the final. while also fighting India To pull off a massive upset in the Super 4 stage.

SLC also disclosed the break-up of its investments in the statement and shared that it has invested Rs. 4.2 billion on playing international cricket last year.

“During the year under reference, Sri Lanka Cricket invested Rs. 4.2 billion on playing international cricket, which includes inbound and outbound tours of the national team, “A” team, junior team tours and national women’s team tours,” it said.

While it invested a major chunk of money on domestic cricket to raise its standards.

“Sri Lanka Cricket invested an amount of Rs. 2.27 billion on domestic cricket in 2022, which was also used to play domestic tournaments, operate the High Performance Centre, pay compensation for domestic players and officials, and the development of school cricket, the SLC said in a statement.

Sri Lanka Cricket also listed their CSR grants as they spent huge amount of money on Corporate Social Responsibility programme, health sector and others.

“Rs. 1.2 billion was invested to fund Sri Lanka Cricket’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, which included a grant of over Rs. 900 million to the country’s health sector (expected to be Cancer Hospital and Lady Ridgeway Hospital) including donations) and Rs.278 million for the National Play Fund among other grants like Rs. 25 million for the renovation of Gangaram Rajamaha Viharaya etc in Kandy, the SLC said.
