Dharwad: Activists of Citizens for Democracy (CfD), and Janandolan Maha Maitri, expressed concern over the nexus between political leaders and heads of religious establishments, such as mutts. They said that an understanding between the political parties and mutts posed a threat to the values of India’s Constitution.
Head of CfD, and JMM, SR Hiremath, interacting with the representatives of the media on Thursday, said that all citizens, NGOs and the judiciary ought to fight against this trend. “Mutts of various castes, and religious institutions, must introspect in the light of recent events. They must steer clear of politics, and return to the spiritual path. Lingayat mutts, in particular, must revert to the ideas of the Sharanas of the 12th century,” Hiremath said.
Hiremath is also the founder of the Samaj Parivartana Samudaya, an NGO, which has filed an impleading application in the apex court, against allowing resumption of mining in Ananthapur in Andhra Pradesh. move to serve notice to minister B Sriramulu, and other officials involved in illegally obtaining land.
