Here are some excerpts from the interview:

ABP Nadu: How is Chennai Police working under your leadership? Which divisions do you control in Chennai Police?

Shankar Jiwal: I took over as the Commissioner of Greater Chennai Police on 8.05.2021. Chennai Police is doing a good job under my leadership. As Chennai Commissioner, Law & Order Division, Crime Division, Traffic Division, Traffic Investigation Division, Central Crime Division, Intelligence Division, Security Chennai Police Division, Prohibition Division, Modern Police Control Room, Crime Against Women and Children Division, Armed Forces, Motor Vehicle Division is under surveillance.

ABP Nadu: How is the public cooperating with the police during the pandemic? What cooperation does the police want?

Shankar Jiwal: Cooperation, in general, is good. Few people create problems defying the COVID-19 protocol. This is the time when the police need to be more patient. If everyone follows the law without questioning the rules, it will help the police work better.

ABP Nadu: How many hours a day are fixed for police work in Chennai? Do they have weekend off?

Shankar Jiwal: Usually it is an 8 hour shift in 3 rotational shifts. However, during fieldwork hunting criminals, or when major law and order is being accommodated, the working hours increase. In addition, they have a weekend off. Most of the time the police voluntarily work on their weekly off because they are paid for it over time while working on holidays.

Speaking on various criminal activities in the city, the commissioner said that his department is taking strict action against goons and miscreants to prevent crime in the Tamil Nadu capital.
