A special teacher training program on using art-based tools to enhance children’s emotional well-being and their academic performance has been started in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Sunday. school directorate education Both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions collaborated with the Piramal Foundation (Kaivalya Education Foundation) and the Red Pencil Humanitarian Mission to launch an arts-based capacity building and training (ACBT) programme.
“It is a theoretical foundation derived from the collaborative framework for academic, social and emotional learning that emphasizes self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, self-management and responsible decision-making,” an official said. The aim is to improve the overall socio-emotional well-being of students, especially those who cannot express their concerns and grievances verbally, officials said.
It was jointly launched on Saturday by Ravi Shankar Sharma, Director of School Education, Jammu and Kashmir Division and Tasadduk Hussain Mir. Officials said the initiative will train 150 teachers in the first phase, 75 each from Jammu and Kashmir division.
On the importance of counseling students and how art therapy can equip teachers with skills to ensure all-round development of children, Sharma said the ACBT project would be helpful in remote areas like Poonch, Kishtwar and Reasi. Mir said that the ACBT will go a long way in helping the budding generation to channelize their ideas so that they can learn in a free and fair environment.
