SpaceX has deployed more than 2,700 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit

From 2019 onwards, SpaceX has deployed more than 2,700 Starlink satellites in low-earth orbit, amassing hundreds of thousands of users, many of whom pay $110 per month for broadband internet via a $599 self-installed terminal kit.

In recent years, the Hawthorne, California-based space business has focused largely on recruiting airlines around Starlink for in-flight WiFi, which made its first such arrangement with Hawaiian Airlines and semi-private jet operator JSX Is.

SpaceX, satellite operator OneWeb, and Jeff Bezos’s Kuiper project, an arm of e-commerce giant Amazon.com, which plans to launch prototype satellites for its broadband network later this year, all use low-Earth satellites. Orbiting satellites are competing in the Internet market.
