Meanwhile, the BJP claimed that 25 candidates would win unopposed in the district panchayat main election; The State Election Commission (SEC) announced that 18 districts have received one nomination each. These elections are not fought on party symbols.

An SEC official said, “There is no way to ascertain whether these 18 are backed by the BJP. But our records till 8 pm show that there are 18 districts where a candidate has filed one nomination each. A total of 154 valid candidates have filed nominations in all the 75 districts.

BJP state spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi said that according to his estimate 25 candidates will win the election unopposed. “As of now, the SEC is saying that there is one candidate each in 18 districts. But we think this number will increase as many opposition candidates do not have valid papers. We will eventually win 25 seats without any opposition candidate.

Accusing the ruling party of withholding its candidates, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav tweeted: “In Gorakhpur and elsewhere, the way the BJP has prevented SP candidates from filing nominations… this is the BJP’s new attempt to win the election. administrative strategy. SP spokesperson Juhi Singh said that 11 district heads will be given a chance to explain their point of view to Yadav. “Our candidates were prevented from filing nominations in 11 districts. They were placed under house arrest, while some were threatened with cases,” alleged Singh.
