South Africa won by seven wickets: Rishabh Pant lost the first match as captain, India missed the world record, Miller-Dussen snatched the victory

South Africa defeated India by seven wickets in the first match of the five-match T20I series. Batting first after losing the toss in the match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, scored 211 runs losing four wickets in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan scored a half-century.

In reply, South Africa chased down the target in 19.1 overs for the loss of three wickets. David Miller and Russi van der Dussen played a brilliant innings. Both of them shared an unbeaten partnership of 131 runs in 64 balls for the fourth wicket.

This is South Africa’s biggest run chase in T20. Earlier, he had chased 206 runs against West Indies in Johannesburg in 2007. Team India’s eyes were on winning this match and winning the record 13th T20 match in its name, but this dream remained incomplete.

India had won 12 consecutive wins in T20 cricket before this match. During this, Team India defeated Afghanistan, Ireland and Namibia in the T20 World Cup last year. Then went on to win 3–0 home series against New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka. Apart from India, Afghanistan and Romania have won 12 consecutive T20Is.

India had set a target of 212 runs in front of South Africa. Batting first, Team India scored 211 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. This was India’s highest score in T20 against South Africa. Earlier, India had scored 203 for five against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2018. It was also the highest total in T20 Internationals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Earlier, India had scored 202 runs at the Delhi ground in 2017 against England for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs.

Team India got off to a good start. Ishan Kishan along with Rituraj Gaikwad put on 57 runs in 38 balls for the first wicket. Rituraj was dismissed after scoring 23 runs in 15 balls. He was caught by Wayne Parnell at the hands of Temba Bavuma. After this, Ishan Kishan along with Shreyas Iyer took India beyond 100.

Ishaan completed his fifty in 37 balls. This was the third half-century of his T20 career. Ishan was dismissed for 76 runs in 48 balls with the help of 11 fours and three sixes. He was caught by Keshav Maharaj at the hands of Tristan Stubbs. He shared a partnership of 80 runs in 40 balls with Shreyas Iyer for the second wicket. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed after scoring 36 runs in 27 balls.

Shreyas was clean bowled by Dwayne Pretorius. After this, captain Rishabh Pant and vice-captain Hardik Pandya took over the innings of Team India and took the score beyond 200. Captain Pant got out in the last over. He scored 29 runs in 16 balls with the help of two fours and two sixes. He shared a partnership of 46 runs with Hardik in 18 balls. Hardik also played a stormy innings.

The Indian vice-captain remained unbeaten on 31 off 12 balls. He hit two fours and three sixes in his innings. At the same time, Dinesh Karthik remained unbeaten after scoring one run. Keshav Maharaj, Enrique Nortje, Parnell and Pretorius got one wicket each for South Africa.
