New Delhi: Gangster-turned-politician Ateeq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed by three assailants posing as journalists to interact with the media on Saturday night when policemen were taking them to a medical college in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. . for checkup.
In the video going viral on social media platforms, Ateeq Ahmed is seen addressing the media and suddenly an assailant shot him in the head and then shot his brother. The three assailants fired several rounds at Atiq and his brother Ashraf.
After shooting Atiq and his brother dead, the assailants raised slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ while the police caught them. The brothers were in handcuffs when they were killed in front of camera crews.
“The attackers raised slogans of ‘surrender, surrender’ and threw their weapons on the ground,” a journalist who was present at the spot said, reports IANS.
Meanwhile, prohibitory orders have been imposed in Prayagraj and other communally sensitive districts. PAC and RAF teams have been deployed in Prayagraj and bodies have been removed from the spot.
Atiq Ahmed’s elder son Umar is lodged in Lucknow Jail, while the other son Ali is lodged in Naini Central Jail in different cases. The third son, Asad, was killed in an encounter in Jhansi on Thursday and was buried in Prayagraj on Saturday. Fourth son Ahjam and youngest son Aban have been kept in Prayagraj’s juvenile home. His wife Shaista Parveen is absconding after being named in criminal cases.
