Due to allegations leveled against him during the #MeToo movement, Anu Malik was removed as a judge of the singing-reality show Indian Idol in 2019.
Singer Sona Mohapatra never uses words and shares her thoughts fearlessly. On Monday, the singer took a dig at the reality musical show Indian Idol Season 12 and composer Anu Malik, who is currently on the show’s judging panel. The singer’s comment was in response to a tweet from a user who tagged her. Tagging the Indian Idol and Sony TV shows, an internet user tweeted, “Anu Malik has been cleared of the #metoo allegations. @sonmohapatra. He has been sitting firmly in the judge’s seat for the past few weeks.” Sona then replied with a sarcastic comment that read, “Garbage loves garbage.”
During 2018-19, when the MeToo campaign gained momentum in India, musician Malik was accused of sexual harassment by several singers including Mohapatra, Neha Bhasin, Shweta Pandit and others. Sona is the first to call out Malik, accusing him of calling him at odd hours and once referring to him as “Maal” in front of her musician husband Ram Sampath. Bhasin and Pandit also came forward with their own stories of alleged harassment at the hands of Malik when they were young and looking for work.
Due to the allegations leveled against him, the musician was removed as a judge of the singing-reality show Indian Idol in the year 2019.
After his exit from the show, Malik released a statement on a public platform and denied all the allegations. He claimed, “It’s been over a year that I’ve been accused of something I haven’t. I kept quiet while I waited for the truth to come out on its own.” But I realize that my silence on the matter has been misinterpreted as my weakness… Being a father of two daughters, I cannot even imagine committing the acts that I was accused of is.
The show was shifted to Daman due to the lockdown in Maharashtra, Anu was chosen as a judge on the show in place of Vishal Dadlani. And this seems to annoy the users.
