New Delhi: Social media companies like Facebook, Google, WhatsApp, Twitter and YouTube will publish transparency monthly reports Compliant with new IT regulations on its websites in India. It will give details of action taken by companies to remove illegal material and listen to consumer complaints.
Google came out first with its report on Wednesday, and the Facebook group will announce its findings in two parts – one on Friday and the second on July.
In its transparency report, Google revealed that it received 27,762 complaints from users in India during the past month, of which 96% were copyright related. The rest were related to trademark, defamation, legal, counterfeit and fraud.
Based on this, it removed 59,350 URLs, exceeding the number of complaints received since a complaint may have specified multiple items that are potentially related to similar or different content. “We evaluate content reported to us under our Community Norms, Content Policies and/or Legal Policies. Removal action may be taken based on this review,” Google said.
The FB group said its report would detail the content it has actively removed. This will be for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. “Some of the categories we report are adult nudity and sexual activity, bullying and harassment, among others,” it said. news network
