New Delhi: Google Received 27,762 complaints from persons in India between 1st April April 30 and removed 59,350 content from its platform on the basis of these complaints. The data also includes court orders.
The information was released on Wednesday and was part of the technology giant’s first India-specific transparency report as per the country’s new IT regulations. Most of the complaints received were related to copyright (96%), followed by trademarks (1.3%), defamation (1%). legal (1%), fake (0.4%) and fraud (0.1%).
The report was published to comply with India’s IT Rules, 2021, which mandates important social media platforms with over 50 lakh users to publish compliance reports with details of complaints received and action taken every month. does.
“We have a long history of providing transparency in the different types of requests we receive from around the world, and how we respond. All of these requests have been tracked and incorporated into our current transparency reports since 2010. This is the first time we will publish a monthly transparency report in accordance with the new IT regulations, and will continue to publish more details as we refine our reporting processes for India,” a Google spokesperson said.
