Snapchat brings new shared stories feature to its users: How it works

Snapchat has introduced Shared Stories, a new way for Snapchatters to build communities around the content they like for Snap.

Shared Stories is a new version of Custom Stories, a product that previously allowed Snapchatters to create Stories and allow friends to view and contribute, the company said.

“Now, with our new and improved Share Stories, Snapchatters who have been added to a group can add their friends too, making it easier for the entire football team, camp squad, or group of new coworkers to have fun. The company said in a blogpost.

“Like all of our products, we have built this feature by design to be safe,” it added.

For example, like all Stories on Snapchat, Snaps sent to Shared Story are deleted after 24 hours. Unlike regular friend stories and groups, there is no chat component, keeping all conversations between friends.

Content is carefully curated using a combination of automatic language detection and new community review tools, empowering Snapchatters to take an active role in keeping Snaps safe and fun in shared stories.

“We also notify Snapchatters if they have joined a shared story with someone they have blocked. This gives Snapchatters the opportunity to leave the shared story, and ensures that Snapchatters are always on our platform.” Who shares the content with, has complete control over it,” the company said.

With this next-generation story, the company said it hopes to help Snapchatters turn shared moments into shared memories.
