Kerala’s total Covid cases breached 41 lakh as its consistently high daily numbers showed no sign of abating, with the state once again witnessing over 30,000 new infections yesterday.

A day after Kerala’s total COVID-19 cases crossed the 41 lakh-mark, state Health Minister Veena George on Friday said that at least six districts have completely exhausted the COVID-19 vaccine stock. And the government has asked the Center for more vaccine doses.

He said the districts—Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur—are facing shortage and only 1.4 lakh doses are left in the state reserve.

However, there is a limited stock of covaccine in all the districts, the minister said. “We have requested the Center to provide more doses of the vaccine at the earliest,” George said in a statement.

Pointing out that many people are reluctant to take Covaxin, he said there is no need to worry about getting the country’s indigenous jab and that both the vaccines are effective as well as safe.
