Singer, Animal Lover & Aspiring Politician: Who Is Aparna Yadav, MSY’s ‘Chhoti Bahu’ & BJP’s Latest Recruit?

Aparna Yadav, the younger daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, joining rival BJP ahead of the crucial Uttar Pradesh assembly elections has put the SP in an embarrassment. While it may not have any political ramifications, the move is being seen as a status quo after several defectors from the BJP joined the SP over the past few weeks.

Aparna Yadav, who is married to Mulayam and Sadhna Gupta’s son Prateek, comes from a Thakur-Bisht background, just like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Aparna is an aspiring politician as well as a trained and qualified classical singer. He has completed his schooling from City Montessori School, Lucknow, and holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and Politics from Manchester University, UK.

An animal lover, Aparna herself runs an NGO ‘Be Aware’, which works for animal welfare. She has also been working on issues related to women safety and crimes against women. Though her husband Prateek Yadav had no plans to enter politics, Aparna made her intention clear in 2017 when she contested the UP Assembly elections from Lucknow Cantt on a Samajwadi Party ticket.

Aparna has earlier praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on several occasions. He was also provided a Y category security cover by the Yogi Adityanath government.

Amidst speculations of differences between Aparna’s husband and her elder brother Akhilesh Yadav, Aparna shares cordial relations with the women of the family and has been photographed several times with Akhilesh’s wife Dimple Yadav.

According to family sources, Aparna always used to say that she will do whatever ‘Neta ji’ (Mulayam Singh) tells her to do.

Earlier, Akhilesh Yadav had dismissed the news as an internal matter and assured that all is well in the family.

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7. Counting of votes will take place on March 10.
