1. Reason behind ‘No Trust’?: “Why they (party high command) did not trust me, I cannot say. All I can say are my own statements. Three months ago, all the MLAs were called for one (CLP) meeting, and then the second time, and then again. It shows a lack of confidence, that they didn’t trust me. If there is no confidence then there is no need for me to live. So, I called Sonia Gandhi in the morning and said that I will submit my resignation,” Captain Amarinder Singh said.

2. ‘My Duty Fulfilled’: “I don’t know who told what to whom. I know that I have done my duty, that Punjab is mine. I was chief minister for 9.5 years, I worked for Punjabis with full strength and I am happy with it.

3. ‘Always open options in politics’: “I have been doing politics for 52 years. I will be in politics. I have resigned today, but options are always open in politics. I will talk to my friends about him.” The captain said he may be close to 80 but was ‘fit as always’.

4. ‘I Won’t Back Down, I’m Fauji’: Capt Amarinder Singh reiterated that options were always open in politics and said that he would not back down. “Like in the army, tasks are given and I finished my work. Now one job is over, I can take up another job.”

5. When asked about the 2022 elections: When asked about the upcoming Punjab elections, Singh said, “I have made many friends in politics, and will discuss the future course with them.” On the ongoing farmers’ protest, the Captain said that he has been with them through the ‘first day’. On the farmers’ willingness to contest the elections, the Captain said that he did not talk to them about it at all and would take a decision only after talking to friends.

6. ‘Told Sonia Gandhi to remove me from the post of CM’: “I told Sonia Gandhi three to four weeks ago that she should be relieved of my charge. Because Sidhu is pulling to the right, and I’m pulling to the left, and I can’t act like that. But she told me she wanted me to move on.”

7. On working with Akali Dal: Asked if there was any possibility of him working with the SAD, the Captain said, “13 years ago, Akali Dal filed cases against me, they threw me out of the assembly. The Seven-0 decision took me back. I can’t align with them, work with them.”

8. Navjot Sidhu can make ‘fleet’ of entire Punjab a disaster’: Asked whether he would accept Navjot Singh Sidhu as the chief minister, the Captain insisted that he would not. “He is a total disaster. Couldn’t run a ministry, now Pura Punjab chalega kya? He had done the ministry ka ekse baad garak diya, ab shuddh punjab ka karna chahunga kya, main nahi maanga. (He couldn’t run a single ministry, could he) Will run the whole of Punjab? He had ruined that ministry, he could have ruined the whole of Punjab),” he said.

9. ‘Did anyone test the numbers?’: Asked whether he did not have the required number of MLAs, the Captain denied the allegation and asked, “Did anyone test the numbers?”

10. “What is the need of CLP now?’: Amarinder Singh asked that since he has resigned from the post of CM, what is the need to get CLP done now. On rumors of Sunil Jakhar being the frontrunner for the post, Singh said, “he didn’t know about it” but he would never accept Navjot Singh Sidhu as CM.
