High command will take final decision: Punjab CLP passes 2 resolutions; Harish Rawat praises Captain’s ‘efficiency’

The Punjab Congress on Saturday unanimously passed two resolutions and sent them to the party high command in Delhi. After a crucial meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), AICC in-charge of Punjab Harish Rawat said that no decision has been taken by the party’s top leadership to name the CLP leader as the final call.

“We have sent two resolutions to the party high command which were passed in the Congress Legislature Party today. We are waiting for their (party high command) decision. Captain (Amarinder Singh) has done a stellar job,” Rawat told the media.

Ajay Maken, who was present at the meeting as Congress observer for Punjab, said, “There was no discussion on the name (CLP leader).” He said that 78 out of 80 MLAs were present during the CLP meeting held in Chandigarh.

The meeting comes minutes after Amarinder Singh resigned as Punjab chief minister, ending months of power tussle that had led the ruling party to polls in the state in just four months. . “I feel humiliated,” Singh told reporters outside the Punjab Raj Bhavan after submitting his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

He further said, “I have resigned, let him make anybody (the next chief minister).” He submitted his resignation along with his council of ministers, his media advisor said.

When asked about future course of action, he said, “As far as my future politics is concerned, there is always an option and I will exercise that option when the time comes.” On joining any other party, he said, “Whatever you have to say, you can say. All I can tell you is that I have been chief minister from Congress. And I am in Congress and I speak to my allies.” I will take advice and then we will decide the future course of politics.” In reply to another question, he said, “I have resigned only for myself. I resign for the Chief Minister and my Council of Ministers.”

Singh was accompanied by his wife and MP Preneet Kaur and son Raninder Singh when he submitted his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit. MPs Gurjit Singh Aujla and Ravneet Singh Bittu, AG Atul Nanda and Chief Principal Secretary to CM Suresh Kumar were also present. Raninder Singh earlier in a tweet said, “I am proud to accompany my father to the Raj Bhavan when he submitted his resignation as the CM of Punjab and led us to a new beginning as the head of our family. “
