Shershaah Plot

The film will tell the story of the famous Indian Army hero, Vikram Batra, who was married off at the age of 24 while rescuing his fellow soldier during the Kargil War. The drama will show how Batra inspired others with his patriotism and valor on the battlefield.

Lead actor Sidharth Malhotra was just 14 years old at the time of Kargil War, yet the story of Captain Vikram’s sacrifice will inspire him to try and launch a film on his efforts in twenty years. A meeting with Vishal Batra, Captain Vikram’s twin brother, was instrumental in the stars’ strenuous efforts to make a film on the Kargil War, told around the world. Siddharth met Vishal and was told about Captain Vikram’s incredible personality, courage, patriotism and of course the selflessness that would eventually lead him to lose his life for his country – something that inspired him greatly.

“I first met Vishal Batra about five years ago, with a completely different team at that time. He and his family had approached me to discuss Vikram’s storytelling abilities and I must say that the way Vishal described Vikram’s life and his character – his charm, his courage and his all-round personality, I was instantly touched emotionally by that”, said Siddharth.

“We couldn’t make it work at the time but it was a story that I should have told. I contacted Dharma Productions and they came on board immediately and after 5 years we are very happy with the final product”, he Said.

Maintaining the authenticity of Vikram’s story and a sense of justice was important to Siddharth, who believes there is always a sense of pressure when it comes to portraying the character of a national hero in a sensitive manner: _“Vikram and I Both are Punjabi culturally and of course we have many similarities, perhaps true in our appearance. I believe this is the reason why his family asked me to play his character. But it is one thing to have physical and background traits and another to accurately portray his personality. I think meeting Vishal helped me a lot – what he described about his twins was incredible, it really helped me face his courage and strength.” _

After bonding with Vikram’s family, and especially his brother, Siddhartha was pleased to hear that he felt the film was the perfect representation of his legacy:
“It was a priority for me to make my family proud, not commercial success. We have been on this five-year journey together and it was important that we get this right. Vishal told me that he had never seen his brother on the battlefield before. but now when he sees me in Shershah he can”, concluded Siddhartha.
