Shefali Shah played the role of Akshay Kumar’s mother despite being six years younger than him in Waqt: The Race Against Time.

Shefali Shah has demonstrated versatility in her acting career, seamlessly transitioning from short films to the big screen. From Darlings, Doctor G, Jalsa and Delhi Crime, she has showcased her exceptional talent. Notably, Shefali Shah received a Best Actress nomination at the 2023 International Emmy Awards for her role in Delhi Crime. Currently, she is gearing up for her upcoming project, Three of Us, in which she stars alongside Jaideep Ahlawat. The film’s trailer has already generated a positive response from fans.

However, before the much-anticipated release of this project, Shefali took a moment to candidly discuss her role as Akshay Kumar’s mother in the 2005 film Waqt: The Race Against Time. Despite being six years younger than the superstar, she portrayed the role convincingly.

During an interview with Indian Express Adda Live, the actress, along with Jim Sarbh and Vir Das shared a laugh when the topic was raised. She then playfully called her colleagues “mean,” and said she had her reasons for taking on the role of Akshay Kumar’s on-screen mother. “I promise I will never play Akshay Kumar’s mother ever in my life,” she said.

When asked about the power dynamics on film sets, the actress said, “Honestly I will tell you, I have had the pleasure of working with incredible people and I am not saying it because it is politically correct. I mean it. I had probably worked with one director or one actor, who was extremely offensive. Apart from that, I have worked with directors who think actors are not just actors, they are collaborators.”

Shefali Shah recently unveiled the film’s trailer on her Instagram. The trailer opens with Shefali’s character, Shailaja, grappling with a dementia diagnosis. Accompanied by her husband, they return to her hometown to relive her young days. There, she encounters her childhood crush, portrayed by Jaideep Ahlawat. Notably, the film is set in the scenic Konkan region of Maharashtra and gained recognition as one of the 25 films selected for the Indian Panorama 2022 at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) last year.

Directed by Avinash Arun, Three of Us revolves around the delicate thread of emotions, touching upon themes of love, loss, healing, awareness, and liberation. The film also features Swanand Kirkire, and Kadambari Kadam in pivotal roles. The movie will be released on November 3.

Apart from Three of Us, Shefali Shah has an exciting lineup of projects. She will appear in the upcoming TV series, Daraar, alongside Sangeeta Ghosh and Kanwaljeet Singh. She will also be seen in another upcoming TV series, Karz.
