“Serious offence”, but minister son “no flight risk”: UP to Supreme Court

'Serious offence', but ministers' sons 'no flight risk': UP to Supreme Court

new Delhi:

The Uttar Pradesh government today told the Supreme Court that Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra, who has been accused of crushing farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, is “not a flight risk”.

The Uttar Pradesh government, represented by Mahesh Jethmalani, was responding to a petition by the families of farmers killed in the October 3, 2021 violence challenging the bail granted to Mishra by the Allahabad High Court.

Stating that the crime was “serious”, the state government told the court that “no words are enough” to condemn it. It also argued that it had “strongly” opposed the bail in the High Court.

The Uttar Pradesh government, however, said that there was no risk of Ashish Mishra escaping and security has been provided to the witnesses so that there is no tampering.
