Senior Kashmir Cop Holds Meeting On Vehicle-Borne IED Threat

Srinagar: Kashmir’s Additional Director General of Police Vijay Kumar held a high-level security meeting in Anantnag in South Kashmir on Saturday. The meeting discussed the emerging threat of VBIED (Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices) and other modes of terror attacks as well as security challenges for the upcoming G-20 summit meetings and the annual Shri Amarnath pilgrimage. Agencies in Jammu and Kashmir are on high alert after the recent terror attack in Poonch, in which five army personnel were martyred. It is said that the terrorists had VBIED.

In response to the attack, several security upgrades have been implemented across Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Kashmir which is hosting the G20 meeting next month followed by the Amarnath Yatra. The ADGP stressed that due to the emerging threat of VBIED and other possible modes of terror attacks, security forces should focus on National Highway security.

According to a police release, the meeting was attended by top officials including Army GOC Victor Force Major General Prashant Srivastava, IG CRPF Kashmir Ops Sector MS Bhatia, IG BSF Ashok Yadav, Joint Director IB. During the meeting, the possible threats from terrorists on National Highways were discussed in detail and more counter measures were decided. The SOP for convoy movement was also discussed and upgraded accordingly. All the field officers gave their assessment.

Jaish terrorist arrested from Handwara

Meanwhile, police in Handwara district arrested a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist and recovered a grenade from him. According to a police handout, a joint party of Handwara Police and Army (15RR), during routine checking at Ganai Mohalla Pajalpora Magam, apprehended a man who suspiciously attempted to evade them.

However, the alert joint team caught up with him. On his search, a hand grenade and other incriminating material was recovered from him. He has been identified as Khurshid Ahmed Bhat, son of Gulzar Ahmed Bhat, resident of Amargarh Tarathpora.

The police spokesperson further said that preliminary investigation has revealed that he was working as a terrorist associate for banned terrorist organization JeM.
