Senior ED officer Rajeshwar Singh applies for retirement, likely to join BJP before UP polls

New Delhi: Senior Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer Rajeshwar Singh has applied for retirement from government service and is expected to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party soon. According to media reports, IPS officer Rajeshwar Singh is in constant talks with prominent leaders of the saffron party, and may contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

Sources said that Singh has applied for retirement from government service, news agency PTI reported. Though the application is yet to be accepted, there is a possibility that he may join the BJP in Uttar Pradesh and also contest the assembly elections in the central Indian state to be held early next year.

His sister Abha Singh, a lawyer based in Mumbai, also posted a message on her Twitter handle along with a picture of herself and Singh, which read: “To opt for early retirement to serve the nation Congratulations to my brother #RajeshwarSingh of #ED. The nation needs you.”

Tech and PhD in Police, Human Rights and Social Justice, Singh is currently posted as Joint Director of Enforcement Directorate (ED) at its regional office in Lucknow. Singh has carried out several encounters during his tenure in uniform.

During his tenure, Singh has been involved in the investigation of several high-profile cases including the 2G spectrum allocation case, alleged irregularities in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and money laundering probe against former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram, Andhra Pradesh chief . Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda.

Rajeshwar played an important role in the investigation and action against former Union Minister P Chidambaram and his son Kirti Chidambaram in the corruption case.
