Sehwag compares Bumrah-Shami’s batting stand at Lord’s to this epic pairing

Former India opener Virender Sehwag heaped more praise on his batting for the fast bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami on the fifth day of the Lord’s Test against England. Sehwag was so pleased that he compared the 89-run stand between Bumrah and Shami to the historic 376 that VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid put together against Australia in the third Test at the Eden Gardens in 2001.

Sehwag shared a morphed picture of Bumrah and Shami and wrote: “Mauj karadi. Shami-Bumrah, take a bow. Taaliyan bajti rehni chahiye (keep applauding).

The batting valor of Bumrah and Shami was followed by a brilliant display of fast bowling by all the bowlers especially Siraj, who took 4 wickets in the second innings and 8 wickets in the match. The Indian team hit back at England and came out of the house with a resounding victory. While the focus was on Rishabh Pant to score some quick runs for India, the fall of his wicket brought Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah to the crease. The two tailenders put together a solid and unbeaten 89-run partnership to take the Indians to a commanding position.

They jointly declared their innings to take India to a 271-run lead to disappoint England. While Shami went on to score a half-century (56 off 70 balls), Jasprit Bumrah registered his highest Test score of 34 runs. The duo added 89 runs for the ninth wicket, which turned the tide of the match.

“Wanted to tell them (Bumrah and Shami) that we appreciated them, and they took the new ball and got the breakthrough for us. When we were the most successful, our lower order was contributing, we went a little bit away from home but they are working hard with the coaches,” India captain Virat Kohli said at the end of the match.

The Indian bowlers then stepped up and ran over the England batting line-up, completing an amazing victory and going up the 5-match series. This is India’s third win at Lord’s. Their last two victories came by a gap of 28 years – in 1986 by five wickets under Kapil Dev and in 2014 by 95 runs under Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
