Method 1: Using Boiling Water
Soak the clay pot for 8-10 hours before using it. He explains, “Since clay pots are porous, soaking them in water allows moisture to seep through which helps the food to steam and retain heat.” Once done, put the pot on the fire, add some water, let it boil and set the water aside. Your clay pot is ready to use.
Method 2: Using Whole Wheat Flour
Put a little wheat flour in the pan, rub it from all sides. He says, “Killing the flour gets rid of loose soil.” Dust off the excess flour. Now put the earthen pot on the gas. Heat the dough till it turns black. Wipe it off with a muslin cloth. Let it cool down and your pot is ready to use.
Benefits of cooking in clay pots
The clay used in making such utensils is alkaline which neutralizes the acid content in the food during the cooking process and makes it easier to digest. Also, food cooked in earthen pots is high in iron, calcium, magnesium and sulphur. Also, you can avoid using oil while cooking, as the natural moisture in the pot is enough to cook the food properly.
