This choice is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The matriculation examination will be conducted at the school level only. Assam will soon set up a new educational board

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that there will be no state board exams for students in class 10 from the 2024-25 academic year. This option is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The matriculation examination will be done only at the school level. Assam will also soon constitute a new educational board.

“Matriculation will be like class examination from now on. It will not be a separate exam called matriculation and will be conducted by the respective schools or academic councils (district-level internal examination boards),” Sarma said according to media reports. He said that the 10th class passing exam will no longer have the same importance as it had when it was a board exam.

Students will appear for board exams in class 12, but not in class 10. Although there will be a pass or fail system in the 10th exam, students will not need to apply again for admission in class 11 thereafter. Also, according to the Chief Minister of Assam, the process will be an ongoing process.

The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) conducts the Class 10 exams, while the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) oversees the Class 12 board exams. Sarma announced that now the boards of the two states would be merged. It is important to highlight that no employees employed by SEBA and AHSEC will lose their jobs as a result of these adjustments.

Meanwhile, after the state government decided to merge SEBA and AHSEC, a committee is working out the finer points of the merger.

Earlier in the day, AHSEC announced the Higher Secondary or Class 12th Final Exam Result 2023. Students who appeared can check their results for arts, science and commerce on the official website resultsassam.nic.in and ahsec.assam. gov.in. The 12th result has been declared for over 3.2 lakh students who appeared in the final examination.

The overall pass percentage of boys this year is reported to be 66.94 per cent, while girls have performed better with a pass percentage of 72.92 per cent. On the other hand, a total of 4,22,174 students appeared in the Class 10 exam this year, with a pass percentage of 72.69 percent.
