Sayantan Basu meets TMC leader after being removed from BJP state committee, fuels speculation

Former West Bengal BJP general secretary Sayantan Basu, who was sacked by new state president Sukanta Majumdar during an organizational change, met a senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader here on Thursday, to discuss his future political move. Speculations got air.

Though Basu could not be reached for comment, TMC sources confirmed that former party MLA Samir Chakraborty met him at his Salt Lake residence and the two discussed for over an hour.

Basu, who has been at the forefront of BJP agitations in the state for years, including a sit-in on farmers’ issues in Singur, is upset over his removal from the post of general secretary of the party’s state unit and not being given any party post. Saffron party sources said.

Sources said that after the party’s organizational committee was reconstituted on Wednesday afternoon, he had also withdrawn himself from a party’s WhatsApp group.
