Saudi and Omani delegations have arrived in the Yemeni capital Sanaa for talks with the head of Yemen’s Houthi Supreme Political Council, the Houthi-run news agency Sabah said on Sunday.

Citing a source in the Houthi presidential council, the report said the delegation and Mahdi al-Mashat would discuss “the lifting of the siege with all its consequences”, an end to aggression, and the restoration of the rights of the Yemeni people, including Including payment of salary. From oil and gas revenue to all state employees.

Nearly a decade of war in Yemen has killed hundreds of thousands of people directly and indirectly, and triggered what the United Nations has called the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

The Houthis captured the capital Sanaa in 2014, triggering a conflict with the government, which has been backed by a military coalition led by regional heavyweight Riyadh for eight years.

The rapprochement between the two great regional rivals, Shia-majority Iran and predominantly Sunni Saudi Arabia, has fueled hopes of easing tensions in the Middle East, particularly in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia on Saturday released more than a dozen prisoners of war to its rival Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The release came after Omani officials arrived in Yemen’s capital as part of international efforts to end Yemen’s years-long conflict.
