Sandesh Jhingan will have to wait for his HNK Sibenik debut after calf injury

Sandesh Jhingan will have to wait a little longer to become the first Indian international to play in Croatia’s top-tier Prava HNL league as the defender suffered a calf injury during his first training session. HNK Sibenik head coach Mario Rojas said that Jhingan suffered the injury less than 30 hours before their match against Rijeka FC.

The injury comes just three days after Jhingan was announced as a new member of the Croatian club. The coach refused to take Jhingan and Haitian Christopher Attis on loan from Inter Milan due to injuries to the team. At present, both of them are out of contention.

“Mesa and Jullardziza could lose for an entire season, there would be no Bilic, while Kevecic and Sahitya are suspects. We also have to sort out the paperwork for the message and (Christopher) Attis. But that will not and will not be an excuse for us to do so.” Sandesh did an MRI, doctors have a different opinion. Revealing that Sandesh would not be available for selection due to a calf injury during his first training session with the team, Rossus said, “Some (doctors) According to him, he may be able to continue training next week, but we will see, hopefully, it is nothing serious”.

Jhingan, who was named Indian Footballer of the Year in 2020, became the first Indian international footballer to join Croatian top-tier league Prava HNL after completing a move from ATK Mohun Bagan to HNK Sibenik. Despite being one of the highest paid footballers in the country and a lucrative 4-year deal with ATK Mohun Bagan, Sandesh opted for Test yourself in a foreign league.

“If you know someone who’s met and talked to me, and understands me, they’ll always tell you that I’m a person who never went after money. I’ll always put glory above gold.” So it’s always been my decision-making process. Money is definitely important, no, but I thought that was what I wanted,” Sandesh said.

“I am a kid who is running to achieve my full potential and whenever I feel this step will help me achieve my full potential. Even when I turn 90 I still Chasing that dream, you know, which I started chasing when I was 10 years old.”

Founded on 1 December 1932, HNK Sibenik returned to the Premier Division last season under a new management. The club finished sixth in the league, just two places below qualification for European competitions. The club is located in Sibenik, the Dalmatian region of Croatia, a city with centuries of breath-taking fortresses and a beautiful Cathedral of St. James, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Jhingan started his youth career at St Stephen’s Football Academy in Chandigarh and got a break in the top division with United Sikkim in 2011. As a young 21-year-old footballer, Sandesh first rose to prominence during the inaugural edition of the Indian Super. league (ISL) when he was named Emerging Player of the League in 2014. A feat that helped him earn a place in India’s senior national team making his debut in 2015 against Nepal in a FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifier.

The defender has two ISL runners-up medals with Kerala Blasters FC, where he spent six years and moved to ATK Mohun Bagan in 2020 after missing out last season due to injury.
