Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial venture Animal was released in December last year. The film proved to be a massive blockbuster hit at the box office and also sparked interesting conversations, controversies and debates. The film became such a massive talking point that people are still not over it, especially after its OTT release.
The filmmaker had expected Karan Johar to like his new movie, starring Ranbir Kapoor, just as he had genuinely liked his first Hindi film, Kabir Singh. However, he mentioned that Shahid Kapoor, who starred in Kabir Singh, might not have seen Animal yet, as he hasn’t received any messages from him. At a roundtable event, Karan Johar praised Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, calling it the best film of 2023.
In an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Vanga was asked if Karan’s praise for Animal surprised him, given their different tastes. The Animal director recalled Karan’s unexpected liking for Kabir Singh and expected him to love Animal as well, which he did. “He messaged me during Kabir Singh also and had put a long message on Instagram for Kabir Singh that he loved the film. He genuinely liked it, even I didn’t expect that he would like Kabir, but when he did, I was expecting that he would love Animal as well, which he did,” Vanga said. He also mentioned that Arjun Reddy star Vijay Deverakonda also loved the film. “We always have this thing that we have to work again, but it’s not like he will immediately call me because my film is a hit. Vijay and I are regularly in touch, we talk on phone,” he said about him.
However, when asked if Shahid Kapoor, the lead of Vanga’s Kabir Singh, liked it, he said, “Maybe he still hasn’t seen the film.”
Sandeep Reddy Vanga is working on his next, Spirit, at the moment. It stars Prabhas in the lead.
