Patna: A total of seven policemen were injured in stone pelting by sand smugglers in Berar Tola of Rani Talab police station area of ​​Paliganj sub-division of western district. Patna Friday morning around 8 am.
During the raid, the police team led by Rani Talab police station SHO Vimlesh Kumar Paswan was attacked after getting information about illegal sand mining and its transportation from Son river.
The police later raided the village and recovered a large quantity of smuggled liquor from the house of both the accused. Police said the river flows barely a kilometer away from the spot where the raiding team was attacked.
Besides the SHO, the other injured police personnel are assistant sub-inspector Naresh Kumar, constables Kishun Dev, Jitendra Prasad Yadav and Tarkeshwar Singh, special assistant police (driver) Umendra Singh and chowkidar Hridayanand.
The police team was first pelted with stones when they stopped a tractor laden with illegally mined sand from the Son river. The sand smugglers of the village, including women, gathered and attacked the raiding team with stones, sticks and rods.
On receiving the information, senior officials sent forces from the nearby police stations of Paliganj, Bikram and Dulhin Bazar to the spot. Ajay Kumar, SPDO of Paliganj also reached the spot.
Rani Talab SHO said Mithilesh Yadav, Sadhu Yadav and at least a dozen others from Berar were evading arrest. “They pelted stones and attacked us with sticks. Mithilesh was with the tractor. He has another case of sand smuggling and attacking policemen. He was presently out on bail,” Paswan said.
The SHO said that when they stopped the tractor laden with sand, the people in it first started pelting bricks and stones lying near the spot. “The houses of Mithilesh, Sadhu and many others were raided in the village. A large quantity of IMFL and country liquor were recovered from the houses of both.
Paswan said that additional forces have been deployed in the village. An FIR has been registered against all the attackers.
The state government is making all out efforts to check illegal sand mining and smuggling. Two IPS officers and several other officers were recently suspended for their alleged nexus with sand smugglers.
