Saira Banu is battling heart problems and depression, refuses to do angiogram

Veteran actress Saira Banu, admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a Mumbai hospital, has heart problems and doctors are keen to have an angiogram procedure but have refused permission, a doctor at the hospital said on Thursday. The 77-year-old Padosan actress, who lost her husband Dilip Kumar in July, was admitted to Hinduja Hospital, a non-COVID-19 facility in Khar, on August 28 following breathing problems, high blood pressure and high sugar.

“Yesterday, he underwent a heart test and has been diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome,” a doctor at Hinduja Hospital told PTI. “The doctors suggested CAG (coronary angiogram), but Saira Banu refused to undergo the medical procedure,” the doctor said. “Once she gives her consent, the doctor can do an angiography.” According to the doctor treating her, Saira Banu is also battling depression after Dilip Kumar’s death.

“She doesn’t sleep much. She wants to go home. The actor may be discharged from the ICU and moved to a room soon.” Her husband and screen icon Dilip Kumar passed away on 7 July at the age of 98 after a prolonged illness.

The couple, who starred together in several films including Sagina and Gopi, got married in 1966. Saira Banu made her acting debut in the 1961 film Junglee opposite Shammi Kapoor and appeared in films such as Bluff Master, Jhuk Gaya Aasman. I Milan Ki Bella, Pyaar Mohabbat, Victoria No. 203, Aadmi Aur Insaan, Resham Ki Dori, Shagird Aur Deewana.
