Saira Banu health update: Late actor Dilip Kumar’s wife needs angiography, will be out of ICU soon

Veteran actress Saira Banu, widow of veteran actor late Yusuf Khan aka Dilip Kumar, was admitted to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai’s Khar three days ago after she complained of blood pressure-related problems. He has reportedly been shifted to the ICU ward today. His family friend Faisal Farooqui said on Wednesday that he was admitted to the hospital complaining of chest tightness and is currently undergoing treatment.

Giving an update on her health, cardiologist Dr Nitin Gokhale told ETimes, “She is fine, she is completely stable, and we will take her out of the ICU tonight or tomorrow.” Dr Gokhale said it is a case of left ventricular failure, which would require angiography. “It will be fine,” he said.

Dilip Kumar died in July this year at the age of 98. Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu tied the knot in 1966. In recent years, she was his caregiver.

More details of Saira Banu’s medical condition are awaited – described as “better than ever” by a relative. When IANS contacted the hospital authorities, they declined to comment, citing family privacy concerns.

Dilip Kumar’s death was confirmed in a tweet on his official account posted by family friend Faisal Farooqui. He wrote, “With a heavy heart and deep sorrow, I announce the passing of our dear Dilip Sahab a few minutes ago. We are from God and return from Him.”

Dilip Kumar was buried here with full state honours, marking the end of an illustrious career as one of the most loved icons of Indian cinema. Kumar was given a gun salute, after which a police band paid tribute to him at Juhu Cemetery in Santacruz, Mumbai.

Born as Yusuf Khan in Peshawar on December 11, 1922, Kumar was known as the “Tragedy King” to generations of film watchers. ) also came for the last rites but the COVID protocol prevented him from going inside.
