saifai: Fir Filed Against Akhilesh For Violation Of Poll Code | Kanpur News – Times of India

KANPUR: A complaint has been filed against Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav for violating the model code of conduct, at Saifai police station of Etawah district on Sunday night.
Saifai is also the SP chief’s native village. This comes at a time when Akhilesh Yadav, earlier in the day, had interacted with the media personnel while casting his vote for the Jaswantnagar seat of Etawah from where the party has fielded PSPL chief Shivpal Yadav on its poll symbol.
Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the Samajwadi Party’s chief ministerial candidate, spoke to the media personnel both before and after casting his vote.
The former Uttar Pradesh The chief minister, who cast his vote along with his wife Dimple Yadav, lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state while addressing the media personnel outside the polling booth. Initially, a notice was served by the Election Commission to SP chief for violation of the model code of conduct. Subsequently, an FIR was lodged at Saifai police station under section 130 of the Representation of the People Act (1950, 1951,1989) and section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of Indian Penal Code.
District Magistrate Shruti Singh said on Sunday when polling was in progress at a polling center in Abhinav School of Saifai, Akhilesh Yadav spoke to reporters, the video of which surfaced on social media.
The Saifai SDM and the Circle Officer were asked to probe the matter.
During a probe by the SDM Saifai, it came to fore that going by the news published in electronic and social media, information was received about Akhilesh Yadav going to vote and talking to media persons while coming out of the polling station after casting his vote. From the site inspection, it became clear that Akhilesh Yadav spoke to the media between the main gate of the polling station and the exit gate. The Election Commission has said that talking to the media inside the polling station is a violation of the model code of conduct, said DM.
Also, section 144 is also applicable in the district, under which there is a ban on gathering in large numbers at one place.
It has also been said on behalf of the SDM that the mics of media persons are visible on the spot, which can be both authorized and unauthorized. Therefore, section 144 has also been violated, besides he had also violated Covid protocol, said the DM.
Therefore, considering it to be a violation of the model code of conduct, a case was registered at the Saifai police station, DM added further.
