For the record, Rohit Sharma scored his first century since 2020 but the India skipper pointed out that he hasn’t played much ODIs during this period.

Rohit Sharma scored his 30th ODI century during the third and final match between India And New Zealand laid the groundwork for a massive 90-run win in Indore on Tuesday as their team also made a 3-0 clean sweep. Rohit brought up his hundred in the 26th over itself to equalize with Ricky Ponting and join the Australian legend at the third spot in the list of most ODI hundreds.

To celebrate the feat, Rohit took off his helmet and raised his bat and looked elated as the crowd at the Holkar Stadium applauded the Indian skipper. His teammates in the dug out looked very happy and stood up to greet him.

For the record, this was the first time since 2020 that Rohit had scored a hundred in ODIs but he looked fuming when asked about the same during the post-match interaction.

Why?

Well, the 35-year-old was miffed with the broadcaster for the reference to his hundred as it was his first such score in the three years since he contested, making the gap seem longer than it actually was.

Rohit’s last century before Indore was against Australia in 2020 in Bengaluru. And since then, he’s scored 16 shutouts without registering a three-digit score.

“Regarding the first century in three years, I have played only 12 (17) ODIs in three years. Three years seems like a long time,” Rohit said after the match.

He continued, “You guys should know what’s going on. I know it was shown on the broadcast but Sometimes we want to pay attention to something, Broadcaster should also be shown the right things (Broadcasters should give correct picture).”

Of course, 2020 was the year the world started fighting against coronavirus The pandemic which affected the cricket calendar as well. India would play just three ODIs during the year – all before the start of the pandemic.

Rohit said, ‘As I said, there was no match in 2020.

“Everyone was sitting at home due to COVID-19. We hardly played ODIs, I was injured so I played two Tests during that time, so you have to put all of that in perspective.”

2021 and 2022 were the years of T20 World Cup and hence the focus was on the shortest format.

“We were playing T20 cricket last year. And in T20 cricket at the moment there is no better batsman than Suryakumar Yadav. He has got two hundreds and I don’t think anyone else has,” Rohit said.
