‘Sad for myself’: says Babul Supriyo after resigning from Modi cabinet, then clarifies

Modi cabinet reshuffle: There was a major reshuffle in the Modi cabinet on Wednesday after 43 new faces were inducted and many were given new responsibilities. While many new ministers got a chance to prove themselves, 12 big faces had to resign from the cabinet ahead of the reshuffle and one of them was Babul Supriyo.

His announcement came hours before the list of 43 new names in Prime Minister Modi’s cabinet became public. Some of the big exits include Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and IT and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

“Yes, when there is smoke there is definitely a fire somewhere. Not being able to take the phone calls of my friends in the media who care about me, so let me tell it myself… Yes, I resigned from the council.” Minister (as I framed it earlier, ‘asking to resign’ may not be the right way to put it),” Supriyo said in a Facebook post, referring to the now-deleted post that he Was asked to step down.

The Asansol MP further said that he has always served his constituency to the best of his ability and is happy that there was no corruption charge against him.

He further added: “My best wishes to my colleagues, whose names I cannot name but all know by now, will take oath as the Honorable Ministers of Bengal. I am certainly sad for myself but very happy for them.”

“I thank the Hon’ble Prime Minister for giving me the privilege of serving my country as a member of his Council of Ministers. I am extremely happy that I am serving my constituency today with all my might without any corruption. And enjoying his confidence when Asansol voted me again in 2019 as their MP, again in 2019 with a triple margin,” the BJP MP said.
