S. Jaishankar welcomes Israel’s Center for Persons with Disabilities with Bollywood Hits

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his delegation were accorded a warm welcome with an astonishing performance on Monday. He was treated to hit popular Bollywood numbers at the Center for Persons with Disabilities in Israel.

Dina Samte, a blind Indian Jewish girl from the Bane Menashe community, who is a part of the Shalva Band, sang hits from the Bollywood films Kal Ho Naa Ho and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which left the minister and his delegation emotional.

Israel’s alternate prime minister and foreign minister Yair Lapid hosted a lunch for Jaishankar at the Shalva Center, which provides the tools for social inclusion in caring for persons with disabilities.

Shalva National Center’s advanced programs and facilities create new frontiers in disability rehabilitation, research and inclusion; Defining new standards in the field and influencing the world beyond Shalva’s direct care. The organization is known for providing equal access and opportunities to all participants regardless of religion, ethnic background, or financial ability.

Shalva provides a comprehensive range of services for thousands of disabled people from infancy to adulthood and their families. Its comprehensive life-cycle programming provides leading-edge therapy, inclusive educational frameworks, social and recreational activities, employment training, and independent living, as well as respite and family support.

Samate, who immigrated to Israel from Manipur in 2007, has the unprecedented honor of being chosen to light the torch at Israel’s Independence Day official state ceremony a few years ago.

External Affairs Minister, Jaishankar also visited the Israel Museum, where he will see a replica of the Kudavumbagam Kochini Synagogue, the Section on Indian Art Section and the Dead Sea Scrolls. He interacted with some young members of the Cochin Jewish community.
