in an interview to indianexpress.comRuturaj’s parents said that they only see him playing when he completes his half-century. “We get tensed before every match and feel the pressure even more as Ruturaj opens the innings for his team. It’s only after he settles down that we like to watch him play.”
Ruturaj’s parents were returning to their native place in Pune on the day of the match and only started the match when they were informed that he had scored 50.
“By the time we reached the village, the match had already started. But we still haven’t seen it. When we got to know from villagers and relatives that he had scored 50 runs, we watched the rest of the match. However, his mother only watched sports for a short time and then took to household chores,” said Dasharatha.
Although, this is not the only match that he skipped, his parents further revealed that they hardly watched any match even during his school days. “If we go on the field, it will play in the back of his mind and put extra pressure on him… We hardly discuss cricket at home with him. In fact, we discuss everything with him except cricket.”
Rituraj’s outing was praised by all and his father believes that it should give him the confidence to continue at this level of performance as the season progresses. “This particular innings came under serious pressure, as Chennai Super Kings were at three for 7. Ruturaj first settled down and then attacked Mumbai Indians in the company of Dwayne Bravo. As he lifted his team from a precarious position to a win-win situation, it should definitely instill a new sense of confidence in him.”
Ruturaj Gaikwad hit nine fours and four sixes as he remained unbeaten on 88 off 58 balls.
