Russia Ukraine Conflict | War Teaches India To Be ‘Atmanirbhar’: Uday Kotak

New Delhi: Asserting the conflict between Ukraine and Russia highlights that geography matters, Kotak Mahindra Bank CEO Uday Kotak on Sunday said “this war” teaches that India needs to become “Atmanirbhar” or self-reliant.

The veteran banker said India, which is dependent on Russian military equipment, has challenges with China on one side and Pakistan on the other.

“Ukraine Russia conflict highlights that geography matters. For India, with China on one side and Pakistan on the other, both nuclear enabled, our dependence on Russian military equipment, and US far away, we have challenges. One thing this war teaches for sure: be Atmanirbhar!” he wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

With India abstaining from voting on the UNSC resolution condemning Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, the Russian embassy in New Delhi earlier on Saturday appreciated the country’s “independent and balanced position”.

India has longstanding and wide-ranging cooperation with Russia in the field of defence.

India-Russia military technical cooperation has evolved from a buyer – seller framework to one involving joint research, development and production of advanced defense technologies and systems.

BrahMos Missile System as well as the licensed production in India of SU-30 aircraft and T-90 tanks, are examples of such flagship cooperation.
