Russia Says West ‘Destabilised’ G20 Talks: Ministry

Moscow accused the United States, the European Union and the G7 nations of “obstructing the adoption of collective decisions” in what it called “obvious blackmail”.

Russia on Saturday accused the West of destabilizing the G20 finance ministers’ meeting India Trying to force through a joint statement on Ukraine which has stalled due to disagreements.

The Foreign Ministry said, “We regret that the G20 activities are being destabilized by the Western collective and are being used in an anti-Russian manner.”

Moscow accused the United States, the European Union and the G7 nations of “obstructing the adoption of collective decisions” by trying to impose their “dictates”, calling it “collective blackmail”.

The ministry’s statement said their aim was to impose their interpretation of the Ukraine conflict in the joint statement through lobbying and “ultimatums”.

The ministry called on the West to “abandon its destructive policy as soon as possible in order to accept the objective realities of a multipolar world”.

It added, “The G20 should remain an economic forum rather than an encroachment into the security sphere.”

G20 finance ministers failed to agree on a joint statement on the global economy at talks in India on Saturday, after China sought to tone down references to the Ukraine conflict.

Instead, the current G20 chair India issued a “Chairman’s Summary” that said “most members strongly condemned” the conflict and that there were “differing assessments of the situation and sanctions” at the two-day meeting in Bengaluru.

A footnote states that the two paragraphs in the summary of the conflict, which were adapted from the G20 Bali leaders’ declaration in November, were “agreed upon by all member states except Russia and China”.
