Media mogul Rupert Murdoch and actress Jerry Hall are divorcing, The New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing two people familiar with the matter.
Murdoch married Hall in March 2016 in a low-key ceremony in central London. The Fox Corp. (FOXA.O) president and his former supermodel wife are frequent fodder for the tabloids, which steered their marriage into festivities in and around Spencer House. The elder Murdoch’s 90th birthday celebration at Tavern on the Green in New York City last year.
Murdoch’s divorce, his fourth, is unlikely to change the ownership structure of the businesses in which he holds a stake, including Fox Corp., parent company of Fox News Channel and News Corp. (NWSA.O) publisher of the Wall Street Journal. Report.
Murdoch, 91, controls News Corp and Fox Corp through a Reno, Nevada-based family trust, which each holds about 40% of the company’s voting shares.
Murdoch spokesman Bryce Tom declined to comment. A representative for Hall, who is 65, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The billionaire, whose net worth has been estimated by Forbes at $17.7 billion, has built up a massive media empire with wealth across the globe. He sold Fox film and television studios and other entertainment assets to The Walt Disney Company (DIS.N) in a $71.3 billion deal, which closed in March 2019.
Murdoch was previously married to entrepreneur Wendy Deng, whom he divorced in 2014 after 14 years of marriage. They have two daughters. He separated from his second wife, Anna Murdoch Mann, a Scottish journalist with whom he had three children, in 1999. He and his first wife, Patricia Booker, a former flight attendant with whom he had a daughter, divorced in 1966.
