The DVAC (Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption) wing on Thursday conducted several raids on the properties of former AIADMK minister KC Veeramani and seized properties worth crores, which included several luxury cars and assorted jewellery. Over 100 officials raided 30 places, including the former minister’s hometown: Tiruppur, Chennai, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri. Raids were also conducted at some places in Karnataka.
KC Veeramani was handling the Commercial Taxes and Registration Department from 2016-2021. The Anti-Corruption Branch on Wednesday filed an FIR against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The copy of the FIR states that he acquired assets 654% more than his known source of income between 2016 and 2021. It is also mentioned that he amassed assets worth Rs 28.78 crore disproportionate to his income. He also reportedly acquired the property in the name of his mother, who is 80 years old.
Following the raid, DVAC said the seizures included nine luxury cars, including a Rolls Royce, 623 gold (approximately 5 kg), Rs 34 lakh unaccounted cash, 7.2 kg silver, 47 grams of diamonds, bank passbooks and assets. Documents in 30 different locations.
Meanwhile, AIADMK workers gathered outside Veeramani’s residence and raised slogans against the DMK carrying black flags. Former minister and senior AIADMK leader Jayakumar cried political vendetta and alleged that the DMK government ordered raids in view of the local body elections and to stabilize the leaders and the party, thus defaming the name of the party. will affect the election results.
