Indian captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently in isolation at the team hotel, the BCCI said in a statement issued on social media in the early hours of Sunday.
Rohit was part of India’s tour game against Leicestershire and scored 25 in the first innings but did not bat on the third day of the tour game.

BCCI tweeted, “Team India captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday, he is currently in isolation at the Team Hotel and BCCI Under the supervision of the medical team.

Without regular opener KL Rahul, along with a groin injury, this latest development is a major setback for India ahead of the 5th Test starting July 1 and the team will be hoping that the captain is on time for the rescheduled Test match. He has hit eight tons and 14 fifties at an average of 46.13.
Veteran Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin’s positive earlier in the week prevented him from traveling with the team to the United Kingdom and, as a result, missed the practice game. But, the Tamil Nadu spinner joined the team a few days later.
The rescheduled Test of the series is scheduled to begin on July 1.
