The Border Gavaskar Trophy is scheduled to begin in Nagpur from 9 February. Ahead of the series opener, skipper Rohit Sharma again spoke about Rishabh Pant but said the team has the resources to fill his place.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has once again emphasized the absence of Rishabh Pant before the first match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Speaking to the media, Sharma made it clear that the team will miss his service but expressed confidence that the men he has at his disposal will not turn Pant’s absence into a vacuum.

When Pant played his role well India visited Australia. In the series decider at the Gabba, Pant scored a flamboyant 89 off 138 balls as India chased down a target of 330 to seal the series. However, things took a turn when the cricketer was seriously injured in a car accident on 30 December while on his way back to his hometown. Meanwhile, Pant is now out of danger and his health is improving.

The 25-year-old shared a picture on his social media page on Monday with the caption: “Never knew it was so blessed to just sit outside and breathe the fresh air”.

Coming back to Pant, Rohit said: “We will miss Rishabh Pant but we have the people to fill the role. We have had a good chat with the batsmen about their plans and hopefully from tomorrow we will execute on it.

White-ball stalwart Rohit Sharma will face his biggest test as India’s red-ball captain against a determined Australian team when the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar series begins here on Thursday.

This is a series that promises lots of twists and turns, gripping sub-plots and perhaps career-defining performances.

This is such a high-profile rubber that a non-performance could spell career-ending for some after this series.

During Channel 9’s busy days, former Australia captain Bill Lawry often used the words “It’s all happening at the MCG” during exciting games. Count on this four-Test series to turn out to be more surprising than anyone could have imagined.

As the caravan moves from destination to destination, the series to the delight of cricket connoisseurs, will bring forth many topics of discussion.

Will skipper Rohit Sharma curb his tendency to pull Pat Cummins if the Australian skipper keeps a long leg and digs a short one?

Desire Virat Kohli Use the sweep shot more often against Ashton Agar and Nathan Lyon as the batting giants look to change their usual performances against slower bowlers in recent times?

Has Suryakumar Yadav’s ‘three-dimensional’ strokeplay earned him Rahul Dravid’s trust ahead of Shubman Gill, the man asked to lead India’s batting in transition over 18 to 24 months?
