RGI has not yet shared biometric data for NRC-denial basis: Assam Govt. Guwahati News – Times of India

GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Tuesday informed the state assembly that the Registrar General of India (RGI) is yet to respond to its letter on sharing of biometric data. The biometric details of over 27 lakh NRC applicants were collected during the claims and objections phase while updating the NRC, which is yet to be notified by the RGI. Out of these applicants, the names of 19 lakh were not included in the final draft of NRC published on August 31, 2019. As per the SOP approved by the Supreme Court, their biometric data has been locked since then, due to the completion of NRC, their biometric data has been locked. Due to which UIDAI has not been able to generate their Aadhar card.
Stating that the matter will be further taken up with the RGI as well as the MHA, the state panchayat and rural development minister. Ranjeet Kumar Dass Said, “The biometric data collected was locked by RGI as per a standard operating procedure for updating NRC. We know that people are facing problems as they do not have their Aadhar cards due to this.” are becoming.”
He said the state government had written to the RGI in November to share the biometric details with the UIDAI. “After the present state government took over in May this year, another letter was sent to RGI on the same matter, but a reply is still awaited,” he said.
“We will once again write to RGI and MHA as we are fully aware that many people are facing problems due to this,” Das said.
AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam | The matter was taken up in the Assembly during Zero Hour, stating that many people are being deprived of benefits under government schemes as they do not have Aadhar cards which are mandatory to be linked with their bank accounts to avail benefits.
