Could this mean a revival of the G23? It is possible and things are not looking good for the Congress in every respect, especially in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. If the party loses here, the guns will be out again and the G23 may gain traction.
Even Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, where the Congress is in power, have not given tickets to the people of the respective states. “We cannot use states as reserves to meet the needs of the high command,” said a Rajasthan leader close to Ashok Gehlot.
This is a dilemma for the top leadership. With fewer opportunities to do the loyalists a favor, the top leadership will have to seek a balance. Between pacifying those who are loyal and those who need to be held back, this is not an easy choice.
