New Delhi: Bharat Biotech on Tuesday said it has received several reports that children in the 15-18 age group are being given a different COVID-19 vaccine in addition to Covaxin.
“Health workers are requested to be vigilant and ensure that only Covaxin is given to that particular age group,” Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech said in a statement.

Bharat Biotech said that Covaxin was the only approved COVID vaccine given to children in the age group of 15-18 years.
“We have received several additional reports of unapproved COVID-19 vaccines being administered to individuals aged 15-18 years,” the company said.
Bharat Biotech said, “Covaxin has been approved based on a thorough clinical trial evaluation for safety and immunogenicity in the age group of 2-18 years.”
The government has said that the only option for Kovid vaccine for 15-18 year olds is covaccine.

On Tuesday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted that more than 50 percent of India’s 15-18 age group has received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Big day for India’s fight against COVID-19! More than 50% of our youth in the 15-18 age group have received their first dose of COVID19 vaccine. Well done, my young friends! Your enthusiasm for immunization across India I am inspiring people,” Mansukh Mandaviya said.
Nationwide vaccination for children in the age group of 15-18 years was launched on 3 January. More than 3.71 crore children in the age group have received the vaccine so far.
