One of the most expensive buyers in the IPL auction, Deepak Chahar proved to be a disappointment for Chennai Super Kings. He was bought by CSK for INR 14 Crores but did not play a single game. Chahar was an integral part of CSK’s fourth championship win in IPL 2021, taking 14 wickets in 15 matches at an economy of 8.35. He was the originator of the team’s powerplay with the ball and was also a capable lower-order hitter, which cost the franchise Rs 14 crore to pick him up in the mega auction earlier this season.
In his absence, the defending champions have won just one game out of five in the current season. However, the Chennai team management has made it clear that it has not sought any other player in place of Chahar.
